The tenure of the current Section Chair ends by December, 2012.
As a result, IEEE Ghana is inviting nominations for the position of Section Chair for 2013 to 2015. This is a position of authority and responsibility, managed such that the Section succeeds in all its endeavors.
a. Be a past/present Executive Committee Member of the IEEE Ghana
b. Be a resident and/or working in Ghana and also in good standings of the IEEE
The IEEE will be organizing a two-day Sections Congress on the 20th and 21st of this month.Each Breakout Session held during Sections Congress 2011 (SC2011) will be available live via webinar, for IEEE volunteers and members who are not at SC2011, but who are interested in participating in the sessions. The page on the link below, lists the Breakout Session topics offered during each of the five Breakout Sessions times. Each webinar will also be recorded and available after SC2011 on the IEEE Center for Leadership Excellence training portal.
From 22 February to 21 March 2011, the IEEE Job Site will host a Virtual Career Fair–allowing you to conduct job searches, apply for open positions and chat with employers via the site’s Live Online Chat program–all for free. The event, co-sponsored by IEEE-USA, is also the gateway for registering to attend the Job Site’s Careers Webinar. There you can learn about the benefits of working at sponsoring organizations.
The IEEE Region 8 would like to announce the Results of the IEEE Region 8 Section Website Contest!

The 94th IEEE Region 8 Committee Meeting was held in Riga Latvia on the 7th to the 9th of May 2010. The meeting was attended by the whole Region 8 committee with some quests from IEEE Headquarters. Among others, IEEE President and IEEE President Elect, Pedro Ray and Moshe Kam respectively attended and addressed the meeting.

Viterbi Algorithm Used for Digital Cell Phones and Satellite Communications
Andrew Viterbi headshot9 December – IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional association, announced that IEEE Life Fellow Andrew J. Viterbi, co-founder of Qualcomm Incorporated and developer of wireless technologies that became the international standard for third-generation cellular phones, has been named the 2010 IEEE Medal of Honor recipient. The Medal of Honor, IEEE’s highest award, will be presented 26 June 2010 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada as part of IEEE’s annual Honors Ceremony.
3 December – The IEEE Board of Directors has elevated 309 IEEE Senior Members to Fellow grade effective 1 January 2010.
The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the Board of Directors upon a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The total number selected in any one year cannot exceed one-tenth percent of the total voting membership. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career achievement.
23 November 2009 – IEEE has launched its first mobile version of the IEEE Xplore digital library. You can now easily perform searches anywhere, anytime of over two million documents via any mobile device with Internet access. IEEE is actively searching for feedback of this new Beta service. Go to http://m.ieeexplore.ieee.org on any internet-enabled mobile device, try the new site, and provide your feedback via the link at the bottom of the Web page.
11 November – The First Humanitarian Technology Challenge (HTC) workshop was held 26-28 October in Washington, D.C., U.S.A. 70 people from 15 countries participated in a series of working sessions focused on defining plans for field tests to address the three selected challenges presented at the June HTC conference, sponsored by IEEE and the United Nations Foundation.
18 September – IEEE the world’s leading professional association for the advancement of technology, will honor Intel veteran Gordon Moore, leading smartphone manufacturer Research in Motion (RIM), and 17 additional global technology leaders during IEEE Honors Ceremony on 20 September 2008 in Quebec City.
